Mark Stoops To Be Named UK Football Coach

11/27/2012 01:01 PM

Multiple outlets are now reporting that Florida State defensive coordinator Mark Stoops has accepted the position as UK head football coach and the school will make it official this afternoon.

The position will be Stoops’ first as a head coach, but he’s led the Seminoles defense to top-ten rankings the past three seasons since arriving from Arizona, where he was defensive coordinator under his brother Mike, the head coach at the time. During his time at FSU, Stoops has helped put together three-straight top-ten recruiting classes and his recruiting ties to Florida and Ohio, where his father was a successful high school coach, should help UK tremendously. It will be interesting to see if anyone departs Tallahassee for Lexington with him, with FSU offensive coordinator James Coley – one of the most respected recruiters in the game – also rumored.

Be sure to watch KSTV tonight for full reaction to Stoops’ hiring, as well as an interview with Larry Vaught.
