One day after De’Aaron Fox was named to the Bob Cousy preseason award watch list, Malik Monk is now receiving some preseason recognition of his own. The freshman from Bentonville, Arkansas was named to the Jerry West preseason award watch list this afternoon, which recognizes the nation’s best shooting guard at the end of the season.

Monk is one of 20 players on the watch list for the Jerry West Award. The award will be presented to the top shooting guard on April 7 at the ESPN College Basketball Awards Show in Los Angeles.

Monk is coming off of a dominant senior season at Bentonville High School, where he averaged 28.6 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game. He was named the 2016 Arkansas Gatorade High School Player of the Year and Arkansas’ Mr. Basketball.

Fun fact if you didn’t already know: Malik Monk chose to wear number five because “on the fifth day, God created the animals.”
