The sixth ranked Kentucky Wildcats (15-2, 5-0) stayed perfect in the SEC, beating Auburn (11-6, 1-4) 92-72.
Freshman guard Malik Monk led the way once again, scoring 24 points on 8-14 (4-8 3P) shooting. This was his 10th 20-point game of the season.
Four other Wildcats scored in double-figures. Bam Adebayo had an efficient night, scoring 15 points and grabbing eight rebounds. De’Aaron Fox scored 13 points, but fouled out early with 7:23 left in the game. Mychal Mulder had 12 points and Isaiah Briscoe had 10 points.
Wenyen Gabriel had a monster night on the boards, grabbing a career-high 16 rebounds to go along with his six points.
Kentucky shot a season-best 57% from the floor and have now shot at least 50% in every SEC game. The Wildcats shot 57.9% (11-19) from the three-point line, but only 53% (17-32) from the free-throw line.
The Cats were hot in the first half, making 8-of-12 three-pointers. Their hot shooting helped them go into halftime with a 51-39 lead.
The second half got off to a sluggish start, as Kentucky only scored nine points in the opening eight minutes. Auburn clawed back, thanks to a 12-2 run, to cut the lead to 60-56 with 12:32 left in the game. Isaiah Briscoe responded with a big three and a layup to stop Auburn’s run for the time being.
The Tigers kept fighting and were only down 70-64 two minutes later. Kentucky once again responded, going on a 14-4 run to end Auburn’s hopes.
John Calipari’s group will return to action on Tuesday, as they head to Starkville, Mississippi for a matchup against Mississippi State at 7pm.
