UK's Tournament Hopes Stay Alive as Cats Beat Florida, 61-57

John Calipari said Friday that the year had come down to a series of one-game seasons, with each game being essentially a must-win for the Cats. Well, in their first season, the Cats emerged victorious, beating the 11th-ranked Florida Gators at home, 61-57.

The guard trio of Archie Goodwin, Julius Mays and Ryan Harrow combined for 42 points, 9 rebounds and 6 steals to lead the way, but it was freshman center Willie Cauley-Stein who made big plays for the Cats down the stretch. Cauley-Stein finished the game with 6 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks, but he took a critical charged and tipped a number of passes in the final four minutes – all the more impressive considering he had four fouls. The UK defense, led by Cauley-Stein held Florida without a point in the final 7:32 of the game.
