Kentucky’s season came to a heartbreaking end tonight, as North Carolina hit a buzzer beater with .3 seconds left to win 75-73.

Down 73-70 with 10 seconds left in the game left, Malik Monk hit a contested three-pointer to tie the game with hopes of sending it into overtime. North Carolina quickly inbounded the ball and Theo Pinson found Luke Maye for the game-winning bucket.

It was a game of runs, and North Carolina’s run down the stretch was the difference maker in the game. Kentucky had a 64-59 lead with 5:10 left in the game before UNC went on an 11-0 run to give the Tar Heels a 71-64 lead with 54 seconds left.

Justin Jackson led the way for North Carolina, scoring 19 points. But Luke Maye was the difference maker, scoring 17 points, including the game-winner to send the Tar Heels to the Final Four.

Five Wildcats scored in double-figures. De’Aaron Fox and Bam Adebayo both had 13 points. Malik Monk and Isaac Humphries had 12 points, which is a career high for Humphries. Dominique Hawkins added 10 points in his final game at Kentucky.

UNC won the rebounding battle, 44-34. The Tar Heels also outscored the Wildcats in the paint, 34-26.

Kentucky finishes its season with a 32-6 record. KSTV will take a look back at UK’s season tomorrow night at 7:30 on Spectrum News. Until then, make sure to follow us on facebook (Kentucky Sports Television) and twitter (KSTV_sports) for more updates.
