Kentucky's Early Signing Day a Success

Kentucky’s first early signing day was a success. Kentucky signed 20 of its 21 commitments, with the only omission being LB Xavier Peters. Head Coach Mark Stoops and Recruiting Coordinator Vince Marrow met with the media to talk about the newest Wildcats and the first early enrollment period for college football.

Terry Touchdown Enrolls Early

The 20 signees included Terry “Touchdown” Wilson, arguably the most important player in the 2018 class. With starting QB Stephen Johnson graduating, there will be an immediate void for the Cats under center and Wilson will look to be the player to fill it. Wilson, along with CB Stanley Garner, LB DeAndre Square and fellow JUCO signee, CB Domonique Williams will make up Kentucky’s early enrollees. Recruiting Coordinator Vince Marrow spoke highly of Wilson, saying that he could tell he was a mature kid because of who he brought with him on his visit:

Stoops also talked about the “joys” of recruiting Wilson here:

New Weapons for a New Signal-Caller

Regardless of who is the new QB next season, they will have 3 new wideouts to throw to. Both Marvin Alexander Jr and Akeem Hayes were already in the Wildcat’s class but the team received a surprise commitment from Bryce Oliver this morning. Stoops says that Oliver has been on his radar for a while and he’s happy to have him in the class. He projects both Alexander and Oliver as outside speedsters in Kentucky’s offense and Hayes as a slot receiver. All three players are dynamic athletes and all three are from the state of Florida.

Eight Players from Florida in the Class

When Mark Stoops first became Kentucky head coach, his home state of Ohio was a priority for the program because of its proximity to Lexington and Stoops and Marrow’s connections there. While the state is still a major part of recruiting, Kentucky might have another pipeline forming in the state of Florida. Eight of the Wildcats’ 20 signees are from Florida high schools and Stoops contributes that to Offensive Coordinator Eddie Gran’s connections and reputation within the state, specifically south Florida. Check out what Stoops had to say about Gran in the clip below:

Calipari Helps Out with Football Recruiting

Marrow also talked about getting some help from Kentucky Basketball coach John Calipari in landing some of the recruits. He was able to take two recruits to a Kentucky Basketball practice and Calipari took them on a tour of the new locker room. Marrow talks below about how great Calipari has been when helping recruit kids to Kentucky:
