Kentucky Offers Scholarship To 7th Grader

Whoever says Mark Stoops and his staff won’t stick around Lexington very long are way off, considering they already picked out a cornerback for the class of 2018.

Jairus Brents still has six more years before he enrolls in college, but Kentucky offered the 13-year-old seventh grader after he attended last weekend’s camp at Commonwealth Stadium.

Although colleges cannot make a written offer to a recruit until their senior year of high school, there is no rule against verbal offers. Colleges cannot publicly discuss recruits until they sign a letter of intent. For Brents, that’s still five years away.

Brents is already 5’8” and 152 pounds. Last weekend at the Kentucky camp, he was put in a group with all the class of 2014 receivers. He intercepted three passes and broke up several others, according to ESPN’s Jared Shanker.

Check out this clip of Brents. The caption says “watch Jairus reroute the receiver.” Yes, he reroutes him to the ground. If Stoops and staff are planning on staying long enough to develop talent like Brents, UK football has a very bright future.
