After putting together maybe their best performance of the season on Saturday against Ole Miss, the UK basketball team fell flat on its face in Baton Rouge Tuesday night, losing to LSU 85-67.
The Cats caught a break in the first half when National Player of the Year candidate Ben Simmons left the game early with foul trouble, but Kentucky could not take advantage. UK entered the break down 37-27 and, despite a few runs, things would not go much better for them in the second half.
At one point, Kentucky closed the gap on LSU with just under 10 minutes left in the game, when Alex Poythress’ layup made it 58-54. But, the Tigers would respond as Tim Quarterman, who finished the game with 21 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists, connected on a three and sent LSU on another run.
For Kentucky, Tyler Ulis led the way with 23 points and 6 assists, while Jamal Murray added 21. Junior forward Marcus Lee was scoreless and fouled out in only 5 minutes of action, while Skal Labissiere struggled again with only 3 points and 2 rebounds in 16 minutes of action.
