Kentucky forward Derek Willis arrested in Boone County for public intoxication

Kentucky basketball player Derek Willis has been charged with public intoxication following his arrest over the weekend in Boone County.
According to the Boone County Sheriff’s Department, Willis was arrested shortly before 5 a.m. on Saturday morning after an officer found him drunk and lying in the middle of the street. The report indicates that Willis told the officer he had “a lot” to drink and could not tell the officer where he was other than in “northern Kentucky.” Willis was reportedly “unsteady on his feet” and had “extremely slurred speech.”
Willis has since been released after posting $50 bond.
A UK Athletics spokesperson sent the following statement to KSTV:
We are aware of the situation and are still gathering more information. We will hold any further comment until it is deemed necessary.
