Kentucky Football praises defensive depth at kickoff luncheon

LOUISVILLE – Mark Stoops and his coaching staff joined over 700 members of Big Blue Nation at the Galt House this weekend for Kentucky Football’s final kickoff luncheon of the offseason.
Much of the summer buzz around the Wildcats has focused on new offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson and the ongoing quarterback battle between incumbant junior starter Patrick Towles and rising redshirt freshman Drew Barker.
But if UK is going to make its first bowl game in five years in 2015, a large portion of team improvement will need to come on the defensive side of the ball, and the Wildcats should have the depth this season to pull it off.
“Anytime you can get more veteran players on the field, the better you’ll be,” defensive coordinator D.J. Eliot told the over 700 fans in attendance. “Those are guys that are more mature, more developed, and have more playing experience. We’re excited about that, and on top of that, we’re developing depth.
“I’m also very excited about some of the young players in our system … who may be the future of our system and have a lot of talent as well.”
