Kentucky Football Practice Report: Hinshaw Pleased with Quarterback Play

08/08/2017 02:59 PM

Quarterbacks coach Darin Hinshaw is impressed with both Stephen Johnson and Drew Barker as the quarterback competition wages on in fall camp. Hinshaw is pleased with his quarterback’s protection of the football. Stephen Johnson has thrown two interceptions, while Drew Barker has turned the ball over three times through eight practices.

Johnson, who led Kentucky to a bowl game after Barker went down with a back injury early last season, has spent the offseason working on his intermediate passing and limiting turnovers. Here’s what Hinshaw had to say about Johnson’s ball security.

Meanwhile, Drew Barker is hoping to win his starting job back. The junior is 100% healthy heading into the season and has shown why he could take the job away from Stephen Johnson before the season is over. Hinshaw says he looks like “the old Drew Barker.”

Barker says he is still working to improve in “every aspect” and put himself in as many game-like situations as possible.
