Kentucky Football learning the power of failure

Five years.

That’s how long it’s been since the University of Kentucky football team last went to a bowl game.

It was the 2010 BBVA Compass Bowl vs. Pittsburg, and the Cats lost 27-10.

Go back two years more to find the last Wildcat win in postseason play, a 25-19 triumph over East Carolina in the 2008 Liberty Bowl.

Patrick Towles was 13 years old at the time. Tyler Ulis was still in elementary school.

The streak almost ended last year when the Wildcats got off to a stellar 5-1 start. But high hopes morphed into more missed opportunities as UK dropped its final six decisions to end up one victory short of bowl eligibility.

It didn’t help that the final nail in the coffin came at the hands of rival Louisville, a 44-40 heartbreaker in the season finale.

Nevertheless, the 2015 Wildcats aren’t hiding from their past failures. Instead, they’re using them as motivation to reverse the losing trend.
