Kicker Joe Mansour was responsible for all seven of Kentucky’s points tonight. After tying the game up at the end of the first quarter with a nifty fake field goal, Kentucky could not keep up with Florida as UK fell to the Gators 24-7.
With 1:46 left in the first quarter, Joe Mansour rushed for 25 yards on a fake field goal and then made the extra point. After that, Florida jumped out to a 21-7 lead by halftime, and the Gators tacked on an insurance field goal for good measure in the fourth quarter.
The vaunted Florida defense, one of the best in the nation if not the best, held Kentucky to just 173 yards on offense and virtually shut down the run game. The Cats averaged just 2.3 yards per carry.
Kentucky’s offense continued to struggle on third down and could not stay on the field. Time of possession tilted heavily to Florida, with the Gators offense on the field for 37 minutes and 29 seconds to Kentucky’s 21 minutes, 51 seconds.
Next up for Kentucky is South Carolina, who narrowly escaped the University of Central Florida 28-25.
