John Calipari said earlier this week that the matchup with Florida was exactly the type of game his team needed to see where they are as they head into the postseason. Well, they got their answer. And it wasn’t pretty.
The Gators pounded the Cats from the jump, racing out to a 21-point lead at the half, 49-28, behind a balanced Gators offensive attack. The lone bright spot for UK was a 15-0 second half run that cut the Florida lead to six, but the Cats fell apart soon after.
Julius Randle posted a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds, while James Young added 14 points. Randle’s double-double was his 18th of the season, tying Cotton Nash’s 1961-62 season as the seventh-most in a season at UK.
The Cats begin the SEC Tournament this week as the #2 seed and will play their first game Friday at 7pm.
