Kentucky baseball advances to third round of SEC tournament

The Kentucky baseball team took care of business against South Carolina this afternoon.

The Wildcats beat the Gamecocks 7-2 and are moving on to the third round of the SEC tournament.

South Carolina held a 2-0 lead going into the bottom of the third before Kentucky’s started to wake up. The Wildcats scored two runs in the third to tie the game up. Kole Cottam crushed a ball over the centerfield fence in the fourth inning to give Kentucky a 3-2 lead.

Evan White’s two-out double in the sixth inning drove in three runs to extend Kentucky’s lead to 6-2. Kole Cottam, Tristan Pompey and Connor Heady each recorded two hits, while Evan White led the way with four RBIs.

Starter Brad Schaenzer went three innings, giving up five hits and two runs. Zach Logue came in for Schaenzer, throwing three scoreless innings while only surrendering two hits.

Kentucky will face the winner of LSU vs. Missouri on Thursday.
