For the first time in program history, the Kentucky Wildcats are headed to the Super Regional round of the NCAA tournament. The Wildcats beat NC State 10-5 to secure their date with Louisville this weekend at Jim Patterson Stadium.

Similar to last night, Kentucky had to overcome an early 2-0 deficit to come away with the win. Zach Logue got the start for Kentucky, going 3.1 innings, allowing four runs while striking out four. Logan Salow, who recorded the save for the Cats on Sunday night, replaced Logue. The senior threw 2.1 innings and struck out four. SEC Pitcher of the Year Sean Hjelle took care of the rest of the game, shutting out the Wolfpack in the process.

Kentucky needed just six hits to score their 10 runs. Senior Marcus Carson went 2-5 and drove in three runs. Sophomore catcher Kole Cottam added two hits and drove in two more runs. Evan White, Luke Becker, Tyler Marshall and Connor Heady each drove in a run. NC State committed four errors on the night.

The winner of this weekend’s series between Kentucky and Louisville will punch their ticket to the College World Series in Omaha.

Nick Mingione talked about what was going through his mind following the final out.
