With his fifth-straight #1 recruiting class already locked up for 2013, John Calipari got a head start on his sixth-straight top-ranked class today with the commitment of Karl Towns. Towns, originally slotted as the top player of the 2015 class, announced that he’d also be entering college a year earlier than expected, placing him alongside point guard Tyus Jones as the best players in the 2014 group.

The 6’11” forward played for Calipari last summer as a part of the Dominican National Team, where he teamed with NBA players Francisco Garcia and Al Horford, and competed against former Cat Anthony Davis. Last season, the New York native averaged 11.8 points, 12.3 rebounds and 3.8 blocks, while also serving as his class president and finishing with a 4.3 grade point average. Towns picked UK over Duke and Florida.
