Succeed and proceed. Julius Randle has taken the saying and put it into action.
The 6-foot-9 freshman announced he will leave school after one season and enter the NBA draft. Randle is widely regarded as a top-10 lock in the draft, and many believe he will be selected within the top five picks.
In his announcement, Randle said that through prayer and talking with his family, he came to the decision to enter the NBA Draft. Randle credited his mother and the UK coaching staff before saying to UK fans, “I want to thank you all for what you’ve done for me this year.” He added that he’s given thought to returning to UK and that Kentucky will always hold a special place in his heart.
The Dallas, Tx. native was a double-double machine for the Cats, racking up a UK freshman record 24 in the 2014 campaign. Randle’s season numbers reflected the achievement, as he averaged an impressive 15 points and 10.4 rebounds per game.
Even with the loss of Randle, UK expects to have a strong front court in 2015. The Cats return Willie Cauley-Stein and Marcus Lee, with the possibility of Dakari Johnson and Alex Poythress also deciding to return to school. And in the incoming recruiting class, the team will add five-star big men Karl Anthony-Towns and Trey Lyles.
