10/18/2011 12:09 PM

University of Kentucky football coach Joker Phillips says his team is rested and ready to take on Jacksonville State after a week off. UK had three practices last week, before getting Friday and Saturday off. During Monday’s press conference, Joker explained to reporters why he thinks his team is having so much trouble improving.

Phillips says the week off wasn’t just a welcome break . it was needed so the players can regroup. And that includes quarterback Morgan Newton, who Phillips says, needed some time to regain his confidence.

And Joker says it’s not only the players who need to improve, but the his staff needs to improve their coaching abilities, as well.

Mitch Barnhart has already gone on record with Kyle Tucker of the Courier-Journal saying that Joker Phillips will be his coach in 2012.
