John Calipari wins AP Coach of the Year award

John Calipari will need to make some more room up on his mantel.
The head coach of the University of Kentucky’s men’s basketball team won the prestigious Associate Press Coach of the Year award on Friday in Indianapolis.
Calipari has led UK to a second straight Final Four appearance this season — its fourth in the last five years — on the back of a perfect 38-0 start, an NCAA record.
Kentucky is also the first team to enter the Final Four undefeated since 1991 and could become the first team to win the NCAA title with a perfect record since Indiana last accomplished the feat in 1976.
Coach Cal already received 2014-2015 coach of the year honors from the National Association of Basketball Coaches and Sporting News, and both the AP and Cal’s fellow SEC coaches voted him the Southeastern Conference Coach of the Year back in March, too.
And as if all that wasn’t enough, the UK head man may be saving the best for last.
Calipari remains a finalist for both the Naismith Men’s College Coach of the Year and Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2015.
The Naismith coach of the year winner will be announced on Sunday in Indianapolis with the 2015 Hall of Fame class being revealed the following day on Monday, prior to the national championship game.
