John Calipari Talks Transylvania

11/02/2011 01:49 PM

UK basketball coach John Calipari has one thing on his mind going into the exhibition game against Transylvania: defense. And Cal says he will use the exhibition game as a tune-up for a season that’s already saddled with the usual high hopes associated with the program. After the Blue-White basketball scrimmage served up a combined 230 points, Cal says defense has been the key focus in the daily practices.

Cal also says he’s seen a lot of defensive ability out of Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, but stresses that the freshman has another advantage being on the floor.

The coach says the exhibition game will be especially good for Marquis Teague, who he says has a lot to learn about being a point guard.

You’ve got to tune into the game if you want to see UK’s starting five, because coach Cal isn’t talking. He says he has seven players that are all starter-quality guys but says he won’t announce the starting five until right before the game.
