HINDSIGHT — After starting the season with a historic 38-0 record, Kentucky basketball’s dream of perfection ended in heartbreak with a 71-64 loss to Wisconsin in the 2015 Final Four.
The hype and pressure to go finish undefeated season for the first time in nearly 40 years (Indiana, 1976) weighed heavily on the Wildcat players throughout the season, but were they sad or relived when the quest for perfection can to an abrupt halt two games too soon?
“Now when I look back in hindsight, I would say it probably would have been better if we had lost a game [during the regular season],” Kentucky head coach John Calipari told Fox Sports on Wednesday.
“When we lost to Wisconsin [in the Final Four], some guys were relieved in that locker room. When I walked in, I thought they’d be devastated. A few of them were relieved, like, ‘Whew!’”
KSTV discussed Calipari’s comments on Wednesday’s show, explaining how the Kentucky players experienced both devastation and relief when their perfect season came to an unexpected end.
