Hawkins and Epps Named Mr. and Miss Basketball

Madison Central’s Dominique Hawkins and Marion County’s Makayla Epps were named Kentucky Mr. and Miss Basketball for the 2012-13 season earlier this evening.

Hawkins, who carried Madison Central to a state championship earlier this month, averaged 20 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists this season, but stepped his game up during the Sweet Sixteen, averaging 27 and 9. During his career at Madison Central, he scored a school-record 2,453 points. Hawkins, who has scholarship offers from South Carolina, Purdue and Western Kentucky, said that he does not have an offer yet from UK, but is hopeful that something could happen when his spring break concludes next week.

Epps, the daughter of former UK guard Anthony Epps, led Marion County’s undefeated team with averages of 23 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game. During her career, she scored 3,300 points. She will join Matthew Mitchell’s UK Hoops squad next season.
