Kentucky freshman guard Hamidou Diallo has been named to the preseason watch list for the Jerry West Award, which recognizes the top shooting guard in the country.

Diallo is expected to be a major contributor for the young Wildcats. He is one of 20 candidates on the preseason watch list. The watch list will be cut down to 10 players by mid-February. Five finalists will be named in March and the winner will be announced at the ESPN College Basketball Awards Show in Los Angeles on April 6.

Diallo was the top shooting guard in the 2017 class. He enrolled at Kentucky last January and practiced with the team for the rest of the season. Diallo played for Team USA and John Calipari in the FIBA U19 World Cup.

Hamidou Diallo will hope to follow in Malik Monk’s footsteps, after he won the West Award last season. Monk became UK’s first ever winner of the award.
