Florida came into Commonwealth Stadium Saturday night and put a hurtin’ on the Wildcats. The Gators rushed for over 400 yards in a 48-10 win.
Kentucky got off to a great start – forcing Florida to punt on its first two possessions – but a fumble by freshman running back Josh Clemons completely turned things around. John Brantley threw a 45-yard touchdown pass on Florida’s first play after the turnover. It was all down hill from there.
Jeff Demps and Chris Rainey combined for 269 yards rushing and two touchdowns for Florida. Brantley added 115 yards and a touchdown through the air.
For Kentucky, Morgan Newton completed 16 of 33 passes for 124 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. True freshman quarterback Max Smith threw for 41 yards in garbage minutes in the first game of his career.
The Wildcats fell to 2-2 on the season with a brutal matchup against LSU next weekend.
