Freshman guard Jamal Murray announced on Friday that he will be entering the 2016 NBA draft.
During the 2015-16 basketball season Murray set a handful of freshman records. He is the all-time leader in points scored by a freshman. Playing in 36 games, Murray scored a total of 720 points, eclipsing Brandon Knight’s record of 657 points. Murray also broke Knight’s freshman three-point record as he connected on 113 three-pointers this season.
Murray also tied for the conference high with five SEC weekly honors, including one SEC Player of the Week award and four SEC Freshman of the Week honors.
For the season, Murray averaged 20 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2 assists per game. His 20 ppg average is the most by any freshman in program history and the most for any player in John Calipari’s tenure.
According to Draft Express Jamal Murray has moved up to sixth on their 2016 mock NBA Draft boards.
Shortly after his announcement, Murray talked with KSTV about the close relationship he has with his father and how much his father has meant to him throughout his college career.
