A former swimmer for Kentucky has been named as a nominee for the 2017 NCAA Woman of the Year.

Danielle Galyer was chosen from an initial pool of 543 nominees. She is one of two nominees from the SEC.

The NCAA Woman of the Year award honors graduating female college athletes who have distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in academics, athletics, service and leadership. Galyer became Kentucky’s first swimmer to win a national championship when she took the 200-yard backstroke crown at the 2016 NCAA Championships. She also maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA as a student-athlete, served as UK’s SAAC president for two years and was a member of the SEC Community Service Team.

The 2017 NCAA Woman of the Year will be announced on October 22 in Indianapolis.
