Former Cats take over the headlines of NBA Summer League

The NBA’s Summer League has been underway for less than a week, and a number of former UK players are among those who are making headlines.
First it was a dominant performance by Nerlens Noel in his professional debut. The Philadelphia 76ers center had 19 points, two rebounds, four steals and a block in just 26 minutes of play.
Julius Randle and James Young are being talked about for other reasons. These two will not be Summer League standouts because neither will be playing in the near future.
Randle won’t take the court until he’s signed a contract with the Los Angeles Lakers. It seems like an easy fix, but the team is holding off on signing their first round pick because they want to keep cap space open for free agents around the league. Julius will get signed in time, but the Lakers strategy is going to keep him out of the nightly highlight reels.
James Young is also sitting out. In his case, injury is to blame. The 6-foot-7 lefty was in a car accident before the NBA Draft, and the lingering effects are keeping him off the court, according to the Boston Celtics.
Another Cat in Doron Lamb will hope to make an impression and work his way back onto an NBA team, and he will get his shot in the coming weeks. The Toronto Raptors signed Lamb to the team’s Summer League Squad, so he’ll get an opportunity.
