Ryan Timmons teared up as he thanked his family and coaches. He laughed through the tears as he joked, “I ain’t going to cry. There’s girls in here.”
From awws to laughter, Timmons captured everyone’s heart, especially Big Blue Nation’s, when he picked up the blue UK hat and committed to Kentucky. His grandmother, a longtime Cats fan, couldn’t stop smiling and cheering.
“Way to go, Ryan, way to go! Wonderful!” Timmons’s grandmother can be heard saying.

The factor that swayed Timmons the Wildcat’s way was Mark Stoops. Despite having a defensive background, the new head coach’s resume proved to Timmons that Stoops has the ability to turn the Kentucky program around.
“Offensive guys know I want the ball, and defensive guys have to be good for me to get it,” Timmons said.
Aside from Stoops, Timmons hit it off right away with offensive coordinator Neal Brown. The future Wildcat told KSTV two weeks ago in a one-on-one interview that he aced Brown’s offensive quiz and knew the offense better than the current quarterbacks.
This familiarity with the air raid offense gave Timmons confidence that his goals and Brown’s goals were in line.
“Coach Brown wants to score touchdowns, score points, and that’s what I like to do. I like to score touchdowns, so it kind of matched up,” Timmons said. “He wants to score every time he gets a chance, and some schools didn’t say that.”
Timmons said he called those other schools over the past few days to tell them he was committing elsewhere. When he called Stoops today at 10 a.m., the Kentucky head coach yelled and screamed.
“I could tell he was happy for me,” Timmons said. “Coach Brown was yelling in the background. I heard him, but they are just excited for me and can’t wait to do big things.”
