Drew Barker out for an extended period of time

Mark Stoops confirmed today that quarterback Drew Barker will be out for an extended period of time.

“Drew will be out. He has an injury that does not require surgery at this point and time,” said Stoops. “He will be out for an extended period of time. I have no idea how long that will be. When I say significant, he’s out for the foreseeable future; the next two, three, four weeks. After that, we will reevaluate him and see where he’s at.”

With Drew Barker out for at least the next few weeks, Eddie Gran and Darin Hinshaw are beginning to prepare quarterbacks Gunnar Hoak and Luke Wright to step into Stephen Johnson’s backup role. Gran said yesterday that Hoak is getting the second team reps right now and Stoops echoed that statement today. Luke Wright, who transferred from Cincinnati, spent time under Eddie Gran as a Bearcat and is relatively comfortable in his offense. Bottom line is, these are two very inexperienced quarterbacks and it is not an ideal situation to have either one of them as your second-string quarterback. How will they deal with these depth issues? We discuss.
