Diallo commits to Kentucky, will enroll immediately

Five-star shooting guard Hamidou Diallo has committed to Kentucky and will enroll in classes immediately. The Queens, New York native chose the Wildcats over UCONN, Kansas, Arizona, Syracuse and Indiana. Kentucky and UCONN were believed to be the only two serious contenders down the stretch.

Diallo has an interesting situation. He graduated last year and is in the middle of a postgraduate year, giving him a few different options. He enrolls at Kentucky immediately, giving him the option to join this year’s team. He can also sit out, practice and then head to the NBA draft at the end of the year. The third option seems to make the most sense, though. He can sit out this season while still practicing and then play on next year’s team with the rest of the incoming 2017 class.

We still have to see what decision Diallo will make, but either way, this is yet another big pickup for John Calipari and his staff. Diallo becomes the fifth five-star player in the class that was already ranked No. 1 in the country.

KSTV will have a full breakdown of Diallo’s commitment and what he brings to Kentucky on Monday.
