Derrick Baity and Austin MacGinnis win SEC weekly honors

Junior defensive back Derrick Baity and senior kicker Austin MacGinnis received SEC player of the week honors, it was announced Monday.

Baity was named co-defensive player of the week with Vanderbilt’s LaDarius Wiley. He led UK with eight tackles (two on 4th-and-1 at the line of scrimmage) in Kentucky’s 23-13 win over South Carolina Saturday. His interception late in the fourth quarter sealed Kentucky’s win.

MacGinnis hit three field goals and both PATs, scoring 11 of Kentucky’s 23 points. He has missed just one field goal this season, a 48-yard attempt against Eastern Kentucky. This is the third time MacGinnis has been named SEC special teams player.
