Former Kentucky and current Detroit Pistons forward Derek Willis has been invited to participate in USA basketball’s men’s AmeriCup training camp. Willis is one of 16 players to receive an invitation. Of the 16 players, Willis is the only one who played college basketball last season.

The training camp will take place August 17-24 at the University of Houston. The 12-man roster will be named before the team leaves on August 24th. The AmeriCup team will be coached by former NBA head coach Jeff Van Gundy.

Team USA will play Panama, Uruguay and the Dominican Republic in Group C play from August 28-30.

Willis signed a one-year deal with Detroit on July 20 after averaging 3.5 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game for the Pistons in the Orlando summer league.
