Defense continuing to improve for UK football

In 2013, the Kentucky defense was statistically one of the worst in the nation. Aside from forced fumbles, the Cats were in the bottom half of the country in every statistical category. That was year one under head coach Mark Stoops. Year two hopes to be very different.

Although UK lost an NFL-caliber player in linebacker Avery Williamson, the team does return a ton of talent on defense. Bud Dupree, Za’Darius Smith and a host of other Cats hope to bring the “Bad Boys” mentality to life in Lexington, but it remains to be seen if that will be the case.

Coach Stoops says the defense is better, but he isn’t willing to say how much. In part, it’s hard to even put a number on something like that. But at the same time, the team still has questions at important positions and he wants to temper expectations.

Regardless of the degree of improvement, Stoops says BBN should expect to see changes for the better.
