De’Aaron Fox’s 28 points helped Kentucky beat Alabama 79-74, as the Wildcats advance to the SEC title game for the third straight season.

It was another slow start for Kentucky, who came out with no energy on either side of the floor. Alabama took an early 9-2 lead at the 16:11 mark. The Tide would extend their lead to 17-7 with 13:29 left in the half.

But it was only a matter of time before Kentucky woke up. Malik Monk hit a big three to put Kentucky within seven and that would light a fire in the guys. Monk’s three was part of an 11-0 run that gave Kentucky its first lead of he game, 18-17. UK would extend its lead to as many as seven points in the first half, but the Cats went into the half with a 33-32 lead. Kentucky committed 10 first half turnovers. They had 10 turnovers the whole game in Friday’s win over Georgia.

The second half was a back-and-forth scoring affair that came down to the wire. Kentucky was hanging on to a two-point lead with 3:30 left in the game when De’Aaron Fox took over. Fox scored seven straight points, giving Kentucky an eight point lead with a minute and half left in the game.

Malik Monk had a solid bounce back performance. The freshman scored 20 points and grabbed four rebounds. He had scored eight points in the last two games combined.

Kentucky will play the winner of Arkansas vs. Vanderbilt in the SEC title game tomorrow at 1 pm ET.
