ClaySTV: The Humble Beginnings of John Calipari

01/27/2017 07:00 PM

John Calipari’s coaching career started in 1982 when he was hired as a part-time assistant at Kansas by Ted Owens. Calipari’s role was nothing more than a volunteer who helped out at basketball camp and served players food. It was a humbling experience for Calipari that helped him develop into the coach he is today.

I caught up with Owens about his decision to hire Calipari and how their relationship has grown over the past three decades.

Check out part of our conversation here on the inaugural episode of “ClaySTV.”

The rest of my conversation with Owens can be found on our podcast. Just search KSTV on iTunes or SoundCloud and subscribe.
