Celtics are preparing to make "strong run" at Anthony Davis

Danny Ainge and the Boston Celtics are going to be keeping a close eye on New Orleans Pelicans power forward Anthony Davis this season.

Chris Mannix of The Vertical reported earlier this week that Boston will make a “strong run” at Davis if the Anthony Davis-DeMarcus Cousins experiment does not work out in New Orleans.

“In addition, rival executives expect Boston to be keeping close tabs on New Orleans, which is entering a critical season,” said Mannix. “The Pelicans are committed to seeing if an Anthony Davis-DeMarcus Cousins frontcourt can work, but if the season goes awry, it’s widely believed the Celtics will make a strong run at Davis, who is under contract through 2020.”

Davis averaged 28 points and just under 12 rebounds last season. The addition of DeMarcus Cousins during the 2016 season is a move that the Pelicans hope will get them back in the playoff picture in the near future.

While a trade seems unlikely at this point with Davis signed through the 2020 season, the Celtics will still be watching Davis very closely over the next few years.
