Cats make history with 66-48 win over Tennessee

02/17/2015 09:48 PM

The No.1 Kentucky Wildcats remain unbeaten after a 66-48 victory on the road at Tennessee, making this 26 and 0 start the best in Kentucky’s long, illustrious history. The previous best came in 1953-54 when the team reached 25-0. Coach Cal, however, reached 26-0 at his two previous stops, UMASS in 1995-96 and Memphis in 2007-08. 27-0 would be a new personal best for him.

Tonight, Tennessee played Kentucky tough out of the gate, playing an active 1-3-1 match-up zone and shooting 54.2 percent (13 of 24) in the first half. But midway through the second half, Kentucky’s depth and size wore down the Volunteers, who shot just 25 percent to close out the game.

Tennessee moves to 14-11 on the season, 6 and 7 in SEC play.

Devin Booker had 18 points and seven rebounds. Andrew Harrison scored 14 points. Trey Lyles added 10 for a UK team that now has their sights set on a matchup with Auburn this Saturday at Rupp Arena. Tip time is 7 PM.
