Cats Escape On Senior Night

That was it… the final Kentucky basketball game at Rupp Arena this season, and it ended on a high-note. Despite shooting only 32.7 percent from the field, the Cats managed to outlast Alabama 55-48 on Senior Night — clinching the 2-seed in next week’s SEC Tournament.

Not only were the seniors, Jon Hood and Jarrod Polson, honored prior to tip-off, but both were in the starting lineup, and both knocked down a three-pointer to fire up the crowd in the early going. However, the excitement didn’t last long. The Cats went into halftime down three thanks to stagnant offense and zero energy. It wasn’t until midway through the second half that they finally put together a run strong enough to take the lead. Big plays down the stretch allowed Kentucky to pull away and avoid its first three-game losing streak of the Calipari-era.

Julius Randle was UK’s only double-digit scorer — racking up 12 points 11 rebounds on the night. This was his third straight double-double, and sixth in the last seven games. The Cats improve to 22-8 overall and 12-5 in the SEC. The regular season finale tips off at Florida on Saturday.
