Calipari shuts down talk of NBA jobs

It’s become something of an annual tradition in Kentucky. Each summer, an NBA team with a coaching vacancy is linked by a report to UK coach John Calipari and billed as THE job that will finally lure him away from Lexington.

Today, it was the New Orleans Pelicans, who feature two former Calipari players in Anthony Davis and Tyreke Evans. And, as quickly as the story broke, the Wildcat coach shut it down.

In a press release, Calipari said, “Even though Anthony and Tyreke are in New Orleans, I have no interest in coaching the Pelicans or any other coaching position. I have a great job and I’m happy at Kentucky.”

Calipari coached in the NBA from 1996-99, putting together a 72-112 record, with one playoff appearance. In his six seasons at UK, Calipari has a record of 190-38 to go with four Final Four appearances and championship in 2012.
