Calipari's Teaming Up For Texas telethon raises $1M for relief efforts

Big Blue Nation helped to raise $1 million on Sunday for Hurricane Harvey relief efforts.

The donations were collected during “Teaming Up For Texas,” a telethon hosted by John Calipari and his wife, Ellen, Joe and Kelly Craft and the Kentucky men’s basketball team. The event also included other coaches, as well as former Kentucky basketball players.

Sunday’s telethon was not the first telethon that Calipari has spearheaded. In 2010, Kentucky and Calipari raised more than $1 million for victims of the earthquake in Haiti, and in 2012, other telethons generated funds for victims of Superstorm Sandy and residents of West Liberty, Kentucky, where tornadoes devastated the town the same year.

Cal plans to visit Texas shelters this Sunday where donations from the telethon will directly impact.

Even though the telethon has concluded, people can still donate online , by calling 800.RED.CROSS, or texting HARVEY to 90999 to donate $10.
