Calipari Hopes To Schedule Tripleheader

Kentucky basketball coach John Calipari met with the media Tuesday to announce the creation of the John Calipari Fantasy Experience, but ended up spending most of the time touching on a number of hot-button issues surrounding his program.
On Kentucky’s scheduling, which has become a national conversation in recent weeks, Calipari said that discussions with Indiana are officially dead and that he’s told IU head coach Tom Crean it’s time to move on. And for Calipari, that moving on could involve a first-of-its-kind event featuring both the women’s basketball team and the UK football team.
“I want to play a tripleheader so bad; you have no idea how I want to do a tripleheader now,” Calipari said. “Men and women on a Friday and the football team on a Saturday and just overrun a city. I don’t know what city it would be, but you will be overrun by people.”
Calipari acknowledged that he’s talked with some schools about arranging the series already and said that he has the support of head football coach Joker Phillips.
“He just said, ‘Please don’t make it Notre Dame.’ ”
Calipari went on to acknowledge that there are some logistical issues that make such an event difficult to set up, but was confident Kentucky would be able to set something up.
“You’d have to do it in November, and both teams would have to have an open date,” Calipari said. “And you’d have to have the stadium available, and you’d have to have the stadium available in advance. It’s not easy. If it were easy, everybody would be playing tripleheaders.”
