Briscoe, Fox lead Kentucky in close win over Vanderbilt
01/10/2017 09:23 PM
Kentucky (14-2, 2-0) beat Vanderbilt (8-8, 2-2) 87-81 to stay undefeated in SEC play.
The Wildcats (14-2, 4-0) were lead by guards De’Aaron Fox and Isaiah Briscoe, who combined to score 45 points on 21-35 shooting. Briscoe led the way with 23 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Fox followed right behind, scoring 22 points and adding five rebounds.
It was a fast start for Kentucky. The Wildcats took an early 9-0 lead, but that didn’t last long, as early foul trouble killed any momentum the Cats were building. Vandy quickly got back in the game and would keep it close until the final buzzer sounded.
Kentucky shot 51% from the floor but went only 1-9 (11%) from the three-point line. The Wildcats outrebounded Vanderbilt 40-32 and outscored the Commodores in the paint 46-32. Bam Adebayo had a strong performance down low, scoring 14 points and grabbing seven rebounds.
Malik Monk was quiet most of the game but came up clutch when it mattered most. Monk hit two key free throws to give Kentucky a four-point lead with less than 20 seconds left in the game. He finished the game with 18 points on 6-15 shooting.
The Wildcats will return home for a Saturday afternoon game against Auburn at 4 pm.
KSTV will have a full recap of tonight’s game on Wednesday night’s show.
