Big Blue Nation mourns legendary Wildcat "Wah Wah" Jones

This week, Big Blue Nation mourns the loss of legendary athlete Wallace “Wah Wah” Jones. He was 88.

Jones played basketball, football, baseball and also ran track for the University of Kentucky in the 1940s. He is most well-known as a member of the 1947-48 “Fabulous Five,” along with Ralph Beard, Alex Groza, Cliff Barker and Kenny Rollins.

A press release from the the UK Athletics office noted Jones’ numerous accomplishments and championships, including four SEC regular-season and tournament championships, two NCAA championships, one NIT championship and a 1948 Olympic championship.

Jones is also a member of the State of Kentucky Athletics Hall of Fame, the University of Kentucky Athletics Hall of Fame and the Kentucky High School Basketball Hall of Fame.
