BIG BLUE MADNESS | Calipari "believes" in 2015-16 team, asks recruits "Who wants to be next?"

LEXINGTON — The new crop of Kentucky Wildcats tipped off the 2015-16 season at UK’s annual basketball bonanza, Big Blue Madness, on Friday night at Rupp Arena.

A sold-out crowd of over 23,000 fanatics of Big Blue Nation cheered the Wildcats on during their player introductions and intrasquad scrimmage that were broadcast live in their entirety across the nation on the SEC Network for the first time in the event’s history.

But before taking the court, head coach John Calipari compared this year’s team to the legends of UK basketball while also extending a not-so-subtle invitation to some “special guests” in attendance.

  • “I believe in this group,” Calipari told the raucous Rupp Arena crowd. “From Pat Riley, to Louie Dampier, to Dan Issel, to Kenny “Sky” Walker, to Jamal Mashburn, to Tony Delk, to Tayshaun Prince, to Rajon Rondo, to John Wall, to DeMarcus Cousins, to MKG [Michael Kidd-Gilchrist], to Anthony Davis, to Karl-Anthony Towns, to Willie Cauley-Stein — Who wants to be next?
  • “This team wants to be next, and hopefully some other people in this building, too.”

Nice sales pitch to the A-list recruits sitting in the front row.
