Benny Snell named Doak Walker Award Preseason Candidate

Kentucky sophomore running back Benny Snell has been named a preseason candidate for the 2017 Doak Walker Award, it was announced Thursday. The award is given annually to college football’s top running back.

Snell had a historic freshman season in 2016, setting six Kentucky freshman records, including most rushing touchdowns in a game (4), most rushing yards by a freshman (1,091) and most rushing touchdowns by a freshman (13). The Westerville, Ohio native was named a Freshman All-American by ESPN, 247Sports and the Football Writers Association of America.

Ten semifinalists for the Doak Walker award will be named on November 15, with the three finalists being announced on November 20. The winner will be announced during The Home Depot College Football Awards on Thursday, December 7 on ESPN.
