Aussie star Isaac Humphries expected to join Kentucky Basketball

LEXINGTON — Football isn’t the only team rolling recruiting Yahtzee in Lexington.

Rumors surfaced late Friday night that Kentucky basketball commit Jamal Murray was visiting campus with a surprise guest. That man of mystery ended up being Australian star Isaac Humphries, and CBS Sports is now reporting the 2016 big man will reclassify to 2015 and join the Wildcats this upcoming season: ranks the 6-11, 250-pound Aussie as a 4-star prospect and No. 35 player in the Class of 2016. ESPN and also assign the coveted center four-star grades.

Humphries is currently living in the United States and playing high school ball for Indiana prep school La Lumiere, and his addition would add much needed depth to Kentucky’s frontcourt lineup for next season.

Speaking at his youth basketball camp in Lexington on Saturday, Kentucky head coach John Calipari could not comment on any unsigned players but confirmed the Wildcats still plan to add “a player or two” for the 2015-2016 season.

Kentucky’s 2015 class is currently ranked No. 2 behind only Duke on, but Humphries commitment would be the icing on the cake of a class that already includes No. 1 overall player Skal Labissiere, No. 12 Jamal Murray, No. 13 Isaiah Briscoe, No. 78 Charles Matthews, and 4-star junior college transfer Mychal Mulder.

2016 New Zealand power forward Tai Wynyard is also expected to enroll early and join the Wildcats midseason, adding to an international roster of two Canadians (Murray, Mulder), one Haitian (Labissiere), and — possibly — one Australian (Humphries).
