UK Baseball | Previewing the Lexington Regional

Kentucky baseball found out last night that they will be hosting a regional for the first time since the 2006 season. The Lexington regional was announced today. Kentucky is the top seed, with Indiana coming in as the two-seed, NC State as the three-seed and Ohio as the four-seed. UK will play Ohio on Friday at noon to kick off the festivities. Despite missing out on a coveted Top 8 seed and the ability to host a super regional series should they advance, Kentucky now knows what teams will be in their bracket as regional play opens this Friday at Cliff Hagan Stadium in Lexington. The Wildcats (39-20) will open with Ohio University (31-26) on Friday at 12pm. The 7pm will be NC State (34-23) vs Indiana (33-22-2). Regional play is a double elimination format. The eleventh-seeded South Carolina Gamecocks live to see another day in the SEC tournament, knocking off three-seeded Kentucky 3-1. The loss eliminates Kentucky from the tournament. Kentucky held a 1-0 lead until South Carolina’s T.J. Hopkins hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh off of Logan Salow. The South Carolina bullpen limited Kentucky’s comeback efforts. Kentucky baseball advances to third round of SEC tournament

The Kentucky baseball team took care of business against South Carolina this afternoon. The Wildcats beat the Gamecocks 7-2 and are moving on to the third round of the SEC tournament. South Carolina held a 2-0 lead going into the bottom of the third before Kentucky’s started to wake up. The Wildcats scored two runs in the third to tie the game up.
