Blue-White Scrimmage Recap

Friday’s Blue-White scrimmage showcased Kentucky’s speed and athleticism, especially from the guards. The backcourt trio of De’Aaron Fox, Isaiah Briscoe and Malik Monk combined to score 96 points in the scrimmage. The team also shot 11-30 (36%) from the three point line, which John Calipari said is about what he expects his team to shoot this season. In a high scoring (and flying) affair, the Blue team beat the White team 110-94 in front of over 16,000 fans at the annual Blue-White scrimmage. Sophomore guard Isaiah Briscoe demonstrated why he is the leader of this year’s team. Briscoe led the way with 39 points and 10 assists, showing his ability get past bigger defenders and create plays for his teammates. The SEC did not receive much preseason recognition this afternoon when the USA Today Coaches Poll was released. Kentucky is the only team in the SEC ranked in the preseason top 25, giving us a feeling that it could be another down year for the SEC. Matthew Mitchell, Makayla Epps and Evelyn Akhator represented UK Hoops at day two of SEC Media Days this afternoon. Kentucky Ranked Fourth in USA Today Coaches Poll

For the eighth straight year, Kentucky is ranked in the top 10 heading into the season under John Calipari. The USA Today Coaches Poll was released today and has the Wildcats ranked No. 4 in the country behind Villanova, Kansas and Duke. Kentucky received two first place votes. Sophomores Isaiah Briscoe and Isaac Humphries represented Kentucky alongside John Calipari’s at today’s SEC basketball media day. One of Coach Calipari’s main points of the afternoon was that this team needs to have “alpha dogs” on the court if they want to have a successful season. He says the 38-1 team found success throughout the year because of the “alpha dogs” they had on their roster.
