With the third and final July evaluation period in the books, things will finally begin to slow down in college basketball recruiting, at least on the surface. Fans won’t hear of Coach Cal flying back and forth across the country to see a number of players, and the countless tournaments and showcases will be put to rest until next summer. One of UK’s latest “succeed and proceed” players, James Young, was back in town today as part of coach John Calipari’s ProCamp in Lexington. The 6-foot-7 lefty was selected number 17 overall by the Boston Celtics in June’s NBA Draft, but that was the last time we saw him. Unlike most rookies, Young didn’t participate in the NBA Summer League because he was recovering from injuries sustained in a car accident. In less than one week, the Kentucky football team will report to Fall camp in preparation of the 2014 season. Although they’re coming off a lowly 2-10 record in 2013, hopes are high for these Cats. This week, Big Blue Nation mourns the loss of legendary athlete Wallace “Wah Wah” Jones. He was 88. Jones played basketball, football, baseball and also ran track for the University of Kentucky in the 1940s. He is most well-known as a member of the 1947-48 “Fabulous Five,” along with Ralph Beard, Alex Groza, Cliff Barker and Kenny Rollins. A press release from the the UK Athletics office noted Jones’ numerous accomplishments and championships, including four SEC regular-season and tournament championships, two NCAA... Read more
